the issue
Fort Mill is a place where families thrive, children learn and play safely, and neighbors support one another. However, Silfab’s plan to build a 900,000+ square foot experimental solar cell factory right here puts our community at risk.
Location.
Why the Current Location Isn’t Right
Silfab’s facility isn’t just any factory—it’s a heavy industrial operation that uses dangerous chemicals. These substances, necessary for manufacturing solar cells, can be harmful if not handled in the proper setting. Our neighborhood, zoned for light industry, isn’t meant for the heavy, risky processes that Silfab intends to use.
The Risks.
What’s at Stake?
Our Safety. Explosive chemicals should stay far away from where our families live, and where our children learn, play, and grow.
Our Health. Families in Fort Mill deserve clean air and a safe environment—without Silfab's toxic emissions or their proposed on-site wastewater treatment plant that would filter over a million gallons of water laced with chemicals each day.
Our Community Quality. A heavy industrial facility can affect not only our health and safety, but also the character and property values of our neighborhood.
Our Schools. With elementary and middle schools located right next door, our children’s education and well-being are directly at risk. These young students and their teachers and administrators deserve a secure and healthy environment, free from the dangers posed by industrial chemicals.
One Simple goal.
Move Silfab
We’re not against progress or renewable energy—in fact, we support smart, safe innovations. We just believe that a heavy industrial operation like Silfab belongs in an area designed to handle such activities. Moving Silfab to a more appropriate location ensures our community stays safe, vibrant, and true to its family-friendly spirit.
